You may have noticed the pink sparkly walls and rainbow flag in the community gallery!

Weston-super-Mare Pride has been working with the museum to produce the latest community exhibition. ‘The Power of the Rainbow’ explores the meaning of LGBT+, the history of the  legislation and the Stone Wall riots, as well as taking a look at Pride celebrations locally and around the world.

Volunteer Chris Fisher has been busy recording oral histories with members of the LGBT+ community.  You can hear their stories and find out more by exploring the Touch Screen interactive. These important stories will be preserved at the Somerset Records Office and will soon be accessible on-line.

On display are mannequins in colourful costumes, posters, videos, wristbands and a splendid centrepiece of head dress with rainbow feathers.

This has been a particularly fun project for the museum to work on, and a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the Pride movement locally.  A big thank you to Weston’s LGBT+ Community!
