Railway Weekend @ Weston Museum

Join us for a weekend of railways.
Weston Museum will play host to huge scale model railways, scale model engines, an exhibition and an evening lecture series.
Its all absolutely free except the evening lecture series where tickets cost £2.50

History Week Pre-Historic Day! @ Weston Museum

We are delighted to welcome back History Week from Monday 18th February 2019 to Friday 22 February 2019.

Step back in time and enjoy a full day of historical activities! Meet scores of re-enactors who will provide a glimpse into a different age. Featuring marching Romans soldiers, Iron Age craftsmen, medieval herbalists, Victorian re-enactors and some WW2 characters to name but a few!

This is a FREE event in our covered courtyard so drop in any time between 10.00 am – 5.00.pm.

Suitable for the whole family. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Enjoy lunch at Clara’s Café with lunch box specials for children!

 

CHILDRENS WORKSHOP

Learning is at the heart of the Museum’s aims and on the following days we have a selection of hands-on ‘Living History’ workshops for children. Suitable for children aged six and above.

These workshops cost £5.00 and booking is ESSENTIAL to avoid disappointment..

Monday 18th Feb: PRE-HISTORIC DAY – Make a replica Iron Age coin and a try your hand at cave painting by grinding pigments!

Wednesday 20thFeb: MEDIEVAL DAY – Make your own medieval toothpaste and a magical leaf covered green man mask!

Thursday 21 Feb: VICTORIAN DAY Victorian Children at Work & Play – Get covered in coal and soot as you learn about Victorian chimney sweeps and make a replica clay chimney pot.

Roman Day for History Week!

Tuesday 19th February – 10am – 5pm

FREE EVENT

  

 

We are honoured to be joined by The Ermine Street Guard, so come and meet a Roman, learn about what life was like under the rule of the empire and even have a go at some military marching!

Their marching schedule is listed below so make sure you turn up in time to join in!
10:30am , 11:30am, 12:30am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm and 4:30pm

The Ermine Street Guard is dedicated to research into the Roman Army and the reconstruction of Roman armour and equipment.

There are also Roman themed colouring sheets, mosaics to make and art activities with Rainbow Sands all located in our covered courtyard.

In our Learning Room we are very proud to have a display from St Martins Church of England  Primary School, Weston Super Mare.

Year 4  students worked very hard learning all about the Romans and a selection of their written work, models of Roman Villas, helmets and shields to name just a few are all available for you to view.

On Thursday look out for The Ragged Victorians – the ‘Great Unwashed’ as they re-enact the lives of the lower classes of Victorian England, circa 1851 Low class Victorians lived by whatever means they could. With no homes, no income and no benefit system for support, an honest day’s work could mean labouring in the most degrading jobs in the world, for little or scant reward.

History Week Last Day! WW1 & WW2 @ Weston Museum
Feb 22 @ 10:00 – 17:00

Friday 22 Feb is the last day of History Week…meet some of the troops and learn about life in both the First and Second World Wars. Look at a vast collection of weapons and hear about life on the Home Front and climb in “Poppy” the American Willy’s Jeep.

Step back in time and enjoy a full day of historical activities!

Read and reflect at the Peace Project Exhibition produced by local Home Educated students that will be on display in the museum’s learning space.

This is a FREE event suitable for the whole family. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
