History Weekend 2016 @ Beach Lawns, Weston-super-Mare
Aug 20 @ 10:00 – 17:00

UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO HIGH WINDS AND DAMAGE SUSTAINED OVERNIGHT, THE SUNDAY HALF OF THIS EVENT HAS HAD TO BE CANCELLED. THE WEATHER HAS NOT BEEN KIND TO US ON THIS OCCASION, BUT HOPEFULLY THERE WILL BE OTHER EVENTS TO ENJOY IN THE FUTURE INSTEAD

Do you miss Weston Museum’s popular History Week events? This Summer, we are putting on a special History Weekend instead, with Vikings, traders, food and rides!

Saturday 20th to Sunday 21st August – 10am till 5pm on the Beach Lawns in Weston-super-Mare
Entrance is free
No need to book – just come along!

The main attraction will be the Hildsvin Viking Re-enactment Group, who will have battles in an arena, hold ‘kiddie vikes’ sessions where young children are trained to attack warriors, as well as having Saxon Getelds to ‘sail’. There will be Viking Oseberg tents, which will include an industrial area with Dark-Age forges and metal work, a woodworking area with an authentic pole lathe, shave horse, and other interactive activities such as a working kitchen, a glass exhibit, bone working, warriors (with a weapons rack), an authentic mint, a trader with various wares, a lords tent, wolf-dogs and a raven.

There will be historical groups at the event and you can have your runes read by a Norse Shaman who will give you a message from Odin. There will also be traders, food and drinks vendors, rides for young children, Punch and Judy, Magic Matt, face painting and you can meet the owls looked after by Avon Owls.

Thank you to Crosville who is offering a reduced fare on their Landtrain on the seafront. Crosville Logo

Saturday 22nd July – 10am til 5pm in Grove Park, Weston-super-Mare
Entrance is free
No need to book – just come along!

Following last year’s History Weekend and the horrid weather causing us to cancel the second half of the event, the Vikings are returning for another day of fights and living history!

The main attraction will be the Hildsvin Viking Re-enactment Group, who will be showing what life was like in the Viking era, from what they ate to what games they played and even their fighting techniques! There will also be activities and information from the Museum team, so you can find out about the new museum, which is set to reopen in August 2017.
